Job Summary
The Automotive & Diesel Diagnostic Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, diagnosing, and repairing today's increasingly complex gasoline and diesel vehicles with quality, efficiency, and integrity.
This position is ideal for an experienced technician who enjoys solving challenging problems—not just replacing parts. Success in this role requires strong diagnostic ability, effective communication, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Responsibilities- Maintain the company's standards of moral, ethical, and legal business practices.
- Present yourself professionally as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Build positive relationships with coworkers, customers, and the community.
- Attend required meetings and technical training.
- Follow all company policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Perform digital vehicle inspections according to the Modern Auto Way.
- Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel vehicles accurately and efficiently.
- Diagnose drivability, electrical, engine performance, HVAC, suspension, steering, braking, and emission system concerns.
- Utilize scan tools, service information, wiring diagrams, and other diagnostic resources to accurately identify root causes.
- Collaborate with service advisors to prioritize repairs and communicate technical findings.
- Verify parts accuracy early to minimize repair delays.
- Perform quality repairs that meet or exceed manufacturer standards.
- Treat every customer vehicle with cleanliness and professionalism.
- Assist fellow technicians with diagnostics and difficult repairs when appropriate.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of your work area.
- Support maintenance of shop equipment and facility.
- Arrive on time and maintain a productive workflow throughout the day.
- Maintain or continue working toward ASE Master Certification.
- Participate in continuing education and manufacturer or aftermarket training.
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Performance is measured by more than billed hours. We value quality, efficiency, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Technicians are expected to:
- Maintain 100% proficiency (billed hours equal to or greater than hours worked).
- Maintain a daily average of approximately 10 billed hours.
- Produce accurate diagnoses with thorough documentation.
- Maintain a comeback rate at or below company benchmarks.
- Demonstrate good time management and workflow ownership.
- Assist teammates when workload allows.
- Contribute to shop organization and continuous improvement during slower periods.
- Strong understanding of modern gasoline and diesel vehicle systems.
- Proven diagnostic ability with electrical, drivability, and engine performance concerns.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and service information.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication with service advisors and fellow technicians.
- Ability to prioritize multiple repair orders.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to producing quality work the first time.
- 5+ years professional automotive repair experience.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing modern gasoline and light-duty diesel vehicles.
