Job DescriptionThis course continues Beginning Musical Theatre Techniques, focusing on stylistic techniques for musical theatre from the 1960s to the present. The instructor develops voice, movement, and acting skills for contemporary musical theatre, directs auditions, and is available starting February 2, 2026. Courses include Beginning Musical Theatre 2 (MW 8:30‑11:00 am) and/or Applied Voice; future classes may include Beginning Movement Techniques and Beginning/Intermediate Musical Theatre.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with the Musical Theatre Program Coordinator and report to the Department Coordinator of Theatre Arts.
- Teach courses in:
- Musical Theatre Performance Technique
- Auditioning for Musical Theatre
- Applied Voice
- Beginning/Intermediate Movement for Musical Theatre
- Prepare and practice challenging repertoire for ensemble performances.
- Assist students with recital rehearsals and performance preparation using piano or tracks.
- Foster a friendly, supportive learning environment for students, staff, faculty, and the public.
All degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript; grade cards are not acceptable. Foreign degree evaluation is required if applicable.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance, or Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance + Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature, or humanities.
- Or possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing community college service in the appropriate subject area, or equivalent qualifications through education, training, employment, or professional experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity in the classroom.
- Extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertoire and current industry trends.
- Teaching experience in relevant instructional areas.
- Proficiency with multi‑genre, cross‑cultural works and adaptive direction.
- Professional performance experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with LMS (Canvas) and collaboration with community arts organizations.
