The Sound Engineer & Worship Production Director oversees the church’s worship production and AVL needs, with a primary focus on creating an excellent, consistent, and distraction‑free worship environment. This role partners closely with the worship team, pastors, staff, and volunteers to execute weekly worship services and special events.
The Sound Engineer & Worship Production Director will provide leadership, technical expertise, training, and hands‑on production support for sound, streaming, and other worship‑related AVL systems. This role will also help develop and equip volunteer production teams while ensuring that weekly services are prepared and executed with excellence.
Worship & Production Oversight – 50%- Collaborate with the worship team and pastoral leadership in planning and preparing weekly worship services.
- Provide hands‑on leadership and oversight of worship service production, including front‑of‑house sound, monitor sound, and streaming audio.
- Oversee technical setup, soundcheck, rehearsal, and service execution.
- Partner with worship leaders and ministry staff to understand the vision and goals for each service and translate those goals into effective technical production.
- Manage Sunday production operations to ensure services are executed smoothly, professionally, and consistently.
- Coordinate volunteer production teams and schedules for weekly services.
- Provide technical leadership for special worship services, seasonal services, and select church events.
- Evaluate and improve production workflows, systems, and processes to support the church’s worship ministry.
- Ensure that AVL equipment is properly set up, maintained, stored, and ready for weekly use.
- Troubleshoot production issues and respond appropriately to technical challenges during rehearsals and services.
- Maintain a high standard of sound quality for both in‑room worship and online/streamed services.
- Serve as the primary sound engineering resource for worship services and related ministry events.
- Mix live worship services with an emphasis on musicality, clarity, consistency, and appropriate congregational volume.
- Oversee and maintain audio systems, microphones, consoles, monitors, stage equipment, and related AVL infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain best practices for live sound, streaming audio, stage production, and service transitions.
- Assist with evaluation of current AVL systems and make recommendations for upgrades, replacements, and future production needs.
- Coordinate with outside contractors or service providers when specialized AVL support is needed.
- Maintain awareness of current production technologies and recommend improvements that would meaningfully enhance the worship experience.
- Maintain technical gear and corresponding storage spaces with the aim of maximizing resources and keeping a safe, organized, and tidy environment.
- Provide hands‑on production support for special events as time and scheduling permit.
- Create a welcoming and sustainable volunteer culture that encourages people to serve, grow, and develop technical skills.
- Train volunteers in sound, streaming, stage production, and other relevant AVL responsibilities.
- Establish clear expectations, procedures, and standards for weekly production teams.
