The College and Department
The Kinesiology Department at CSUF, housed within the College of Health and Human Development, seeks to advance our understanding of human movement across the lifespan in the context of a diverse and changing society. We offer an undergraduate major leading to a B.S. in Kinesiology. We also have a graduate program leading to an M.S. in Kinesiology and typically enroll a high number of students with a focus on strength and conditioning.
The Department has modern research/teaching facilities, including Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Motor Behavior, Sport and Exercise Psychology, and Human Performance Laboratories, among others. The Human Performance Laboratory (HPL; hhd.fullerton.edu/knes/research-lab/hpl.html) is dedicated to research related to aerobic and anaerobic capacity as it pertains to athletic, sport, and tactical performance. This laboratory, and other laboratories within the Department, is equipped with field testing and sophisticated measurement devices used to measure human performance.
The Kinesiology Department has also had a historically close relationship with CSUF Athletics (), providing opportunities for research with Division I student-athletes. The Department also directs an Employee Wellness Program (ewp.fullerton.edu/) for faculty and staff which provides hands-on experience for students.
The Kinesiology Department also has several centers that address a variety of research, service and community needs. Numerous faculty members contribute to the Center for Sport Performance (CSP; hhd.fullerton.edu/knes/center-programs/csp/about.html). The goal of the CSP is to present and publish research and engage in consultations specifically related to improvement of sports performance through application of the sub-disciplines of Kinesiology, with close collaboration between faculty, students, and the community.
Tactical and occupational performance, in addition to career longevity, for first responders and military personnel has also become a focus within the CSP.
The Center for Successful Aging (csa.fullerton.edu) is dedicated to promoting health and vitality across the lifespan, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research in healthy aging and high-quality pre-professional training opportunities for Kinesiology undergraduate and graduate students. Our well-established multi-component exercise program for people aged 55 years and older provides both faculty and students with rich opportunities to conduct aging-related research across a variety of disciplines, including but not limited to musculoskeletal health and performance, falls prevention, and functional strength and conditioning for older adults.
