The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Chicana and Chicano Studies with an appointment to begin Fall 2026. CSUF is a minority‑serving institution with a Hispanic‑Serving Institution designation and is committed to increasing the diversity of the campus community and curriculum. Candidates who can contribute to this goal through teaching, research, advising, and other activities are encouraged to identify their strengths and experiences.
PositionThe candidate will be a specialist in the interdisciplinary study of Chicanx and Latinx visual culture and immigration. Expected responsibilities include:
- Teaching broadly within the department’s curriculum, including introductory, core, and Ethnic Studies Requirement courses.
- Developing courses in their area(s) of specialization.
- Producing scholarship or equivalent creative activities commensurate with the Department Personal Standards requirements for tenure.
- Mentoring students and serving on departmental and university‑wide committees.
- Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies, Chicana/o Studies, or related fields with an interdisciplinary focus on visual culture and immigration. ABDs may apply but must show evidence of completing the degree by appointment.
- Demonstrated or potential excellence in undergraduate teaching.
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with students from intersecting marginalized social groups.
- A strong record of scholarly and/or creative accomplishments appropriate to the level of appointment.
- Experience working collaboratively with colleagues and communities.
- Ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service.
- Ability to teach and build curriculum in lower and upper‑division courses focused on visual culture and immigration with an emphasis in Latinx and Central American Studies.
- Evidence of effective use of a variety of instructional methods and learning modalities.
- Commitment to co-curricular activities and engagement with campus and regional communities.
