The Department of African American Studies at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑time Lecturer pool.

We welcome applications from individuals who are experienced and student‑centered to teach in the following subject areas:

  • African American Culture
  • African American History
  • African American Literature
  • Ethnic Studies

This pool seeks qualified individuals to teach the listed subjects. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions become available. Appointments are typically made just prior to the start of the academic term and require availability on short notice.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Candidates must hold at least a Master’s degree in African American Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a related field.
  • Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first‑generation college students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in African American Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a related field.
  • Preference for those with experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  • Preference for scholars demonstrating innovative interdisciplinary pedagogy and relevant professional experience.
HOW TO APPLY

A complete online application must be submitted. The following materials are required at the time of application.

  • Cover Letter including a statement of courses qualified to teach.
  • Unofficial transcripts for highest terminal degree.
  • Three references with contact information.
  • Inclusive Excellence Statement describing past contributions and future aspirations for supporting a diverse student population.
  • Sample course syllabi.
  • Teaching evaluations, if available.

Before official hire, the following materials are required.

  • Three letters of recommendation. Selected finalists will receive notification to obtain letters from references.
APPOINTMENT DATE AND ACADEMIC CALENDAR

The need for part‑time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters, which run from late August to mid‑December and from mid‑January to end of May, respectively. Part‑time faculty are occasionally needed during Summer sessions.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Performance evaluations are conducted by the department in accordance with the CSU Collective Bargaining Agreement and University policy. These evaluations determine future teaching assignments.

APPOINTMENT AND SALARY

All part‑time faculty are appointed as Lecturers under the CSU Collective Bargaining Agreement. Initial appointments are for one semester. Salary range is $5,507 – $6,677 per month, prorated to units taught and paid in six monthly payments per full semester. For a three‑unit assignment, typical compensation is $6,608.40 – $7,465.20 per semester.

MANDATED REPORTER

The holder of this position is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act, required to comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CLEARANCE NOTICE

Appointment is contingent upon satisfactory background check; continued employment requires periodic clearance per CSU policy.

OUT-OF-STATE EMPLOYMENT POLICY
