Position Overview

The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑Time Lecturer Pool to teach lower‑division (100 and 200 level) undergraduate courses in Arabic, German, Italian, Korean, and Persian.

This pool of part‑time lecturers is drawn on as needed. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions become available. Appointments from the pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term; applicants must be available on very short notice.

Required Qualifications
  • Hold at least a master’s degree in the language of instruction or a related field and possess native or native‑like fluency in that language.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first‑generation college students.
  • Have the legal right to work in the United States;
    California State University, Fullerton cannot sponsor part‑time faculty for work visas or permanent residence.
  • Reside in the State of California at the time of hiring; this requirement cannot be waived, even for online courses.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  • Relevant work experience and professional capabilities.
Appointment & Salary

All part‑time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers under the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only.

Classification range: $5,507 – $6,677 per month. Anticipated hiring range, based on qualifications, does not exceed $6,221 per month.

For a three‑unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.

Academic Calendar & Appointment Timing

Need for part‑time faculty is greatest during Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term runs from late August to mid‑December; the Spring term runs from mid‑January to the end of May. Rarely, part‑time faculty are needed for a Summer Session segment.

Performance Evaluation

Regular performance evaluations of part‑time lecturers are conducted by the department in accordance with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These evaluations determine which lecturers are retained for future teaching assignments and may include review of syllabi, assignments, and reading materials by the departmental personnel committee.
