African American Studies - Part-Time Lecturer Pool

Position OverviewWe invite applications for the Part‑Time Lecturer pool in the Department of African American Studies. Part‑time lecturers will be assigned as needed for the academic term, typically with short notice and temporary appointments.
Teaching ResponsibilitiesLecturers will teach courses in the following subject areas:
- African American Culture
- African American History
- African American Literature
- Ethnic Studies
Assignments may include traditional face‑to‑face classes, online courses, or hybrid modalities. Lecturers must develop and deliver engaging course content and support diverse student populations.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in African American Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to interact and work effectively with culturally diverse students, including first‑generation college students.
- Ph.D. in African American Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a related field.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
- Professional experience and innovative interdisciplinary pedagogy.
- Appointments are made as Lecturers under the CSU system Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Initial appointments are for one semester only.
- Classified salary range: $5,507 – $6,677 per month, prorated to units worked; maximum $6,221 per month.
- Typical compensation for a three‑unit assignment: $6,608.40 – $7,465.20 per semester.
