The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Experimental Biochemistry with an appointment to begin Fall 2027. The successful candidate will teach and mentor a diverse student population, initiate and sustain an active experimental biochemistry research program involving undergraduate and master’s students, and serve in departmental, college, and university activities.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and graduate level lecture and laboratory courses in Biochemistry, including but not limited to Metabolism and Nutritional Biochemistry and specialty courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
- Develop and maintain an independent, funded experimental biochemistry research program that engages undergraduate and master’s students, resulting in peer‑reviewed publications and external funding.
- Provide mentoring, advise students, and serve on departmental and university committees.
- Participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.
- A Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemistry, chemical biology, biological chemistry, or a closely related field with relevant postdoctoral experience.
- A strong commitment to and demonstrated potential for effective and engaging teaching, using student‑centered pedagogy, active learning, and inquiry‑based approaches.
- A record of research productivity in experimental biochemistry or closely related fields.
- A proven ability to develop and maintain an independent, funded experimental biochemistry research program that engages undergraduate and master’s students, producing peer‑reviewed publications with CSUF student co‑authors.
- The ability to communicate with and effectively mentor an ethnically and culturally diverse campus population.

- Teaching Statement (2 pages):
Describe teaching philosophy, engagement strategies, and methods for a diverse student population. - Research Statement (4 pages):
Outline research goals, undergraduate/master’s engagement, mentorship plan, funding strategies, and anticipated equipment needs. - Inclusive Excellence Statement (≤ 500 words, 500 words or less):
Provide concrete examples of past and future contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, service, and scholarship. - Provide a list of three references with contact information; finalists must submit letters of recommendation.
- Graduate transcripts (unofficial copies acceptable for initial review).
- Semifinalists and/or finalists may be asked to submit additional materials.

Compensation and Benefits- Salary range: $7,206 to $7,350 monthly ($86,472 – $88,200 annually), commensurate with experience.
