portuguese - part-time lecturer pool
the department of modern languages and literatures at csu fullerton invites applications for its part‑time lecturer pool in portuguese to teach lower‑division (100‑ and 200‑level) undergraduate courses.
appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Appplicants must be available on very short notice.
responsibilitiesteach lower‑division portuguese courses (100‑ and 200‑level).
appointment and academic calendarpart‑time faculty are primarily needed in fall and spring semesters. Fall term runs from late august to mid‑december; spring term runs from mid‑january to end of may. Rarely, faculty may be needed during summer sessions.
performance evaluationperformance of part‑time lecturers is evaluated by the department in accordance with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and university policy statement 210.070. These evaluations determine future retention and assignment decisions.
required qualifications- master's degree in portuguese or a related field.
- native‑like fluency in portuguese.
- ability to interact effectively with culturally diverse students, including first‑generation college students.
- legal right to work in the united states; california state university, fullerton does not sponsor part‑time faculty for work visas or permanent residence.
- residence in the state of california at the time of hiring (cannot be waived, even for online courses).
- prior teaching experience at the college or university level.
- experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.
- relevant work experience and professional capabilities that enhance teaching.
all part‑time faculty appointments are for one semester only.
classification range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month.
anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month.
for a three‑unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.

legal and employment requirementspart‑time faculty must comply with the california child abuse and neglect reporting act as mandated reporters under csu executive order 1083.
appointment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Continued employment requires a background screen as required under csu policy; rehire after a 12‑month hiatus requires a new check.
in accordance with the csu out‑of‑state employment policy, employees must perform csu related work within the state of california.
