Japanese - Part-Time Lecturer Pool

POSITION

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑Time Lecturer pool in Japanese to teach undergraduate courses in Japanese language, culture, literature, linguistics and/or film (beginners to advanced learners).

• Japanese Language – Introductory to Advanced
• Japanese Culture – Intermediate to Advanced
• Japanese Literature – Intermediate to Advanced
• Japanese Linguistics – Intermediate to Advanced

• Hold at least a master’s degree in Japanese, Asian Studies, or a related field and possess native‑like fluency in Japanese to teach lower‑division courses.
• Be at least a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) with native‑like fluency in Japanese to teach 300‑level courses.
• Hold a Ph.D. with native‑like fluency in Japanese to teach 400‑level courses.
• Demonstrate ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse range of students, including first‑generation college students.
• Have the legal right to work in the United States and must reside in the State of California at the time of hiring; this requirement cannot be waived for online courses.

• Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching skills.
• Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.
• Relevant professional work experience that enhances course content.

Part‑time faculty are most needed in the Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term runs from late August to mid‑December; the Spring term runs from mid‑January to the end of May. Occasional needs arise during Summer Session segments.

Regular performance evaluations are conducted by the department in accordance with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These evaluations determine which lecturers are retained for future teaching assignments. In some instances, syllabi, assignments and reading material may be reviewed by the departmental personnel committee.

All part‑time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers under the CSU Collective Bargaining Agreement. Initial appointments are for one semester only.

Classification Range: $5,507 – $6,677 per month (anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month).

For a three‑unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083. This is a condition of employment.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Failure to pass the check or concealment of disqualifying information may result in rescission of the offer or termination of employment.
