Position Overview

The Department of Kinesiology invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position focusing on motor control and motor learning, with emphasis on balance, postural control, neuromotor function, and fall prevention in aging populations. The role includes teaching introductory and upper‑level courses, conducting scholarship, advising students, and participating in departmental and university committees.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and teach courses such as Human Motor Control and Learning, Motor Control and Movement Dysfunction, Physical Activity and The Aging Process, Functional Performance Assessment and Programming for Older Adults, and Advanced Study in Human Motor Control and Learning.
  • Produce scholarship or creative work commensurate with promotion requirements.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Serve on departmental and university committees and contribute to the broader academic community.
Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Neuroscience, or related field by appointment.
  • Strong foundation in motor control and/or motor learning theories and research methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high‑quality undergraduate and graduate instruction.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population, including first‑generation students.
  • Record of scholarship in an area of specialization.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, or service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in balance, postural control, fall prevention, or neuromotor rehabilitation with aging populations.
  • Potential or experience to secure external funding.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration across kinesiology, aging science, gerontology, physical therapy, or public health.
  • Experience with high‑impact teaching practices such as service‑learning or community‑based learning.

  • Teaching statement (philosophy, experience, courses taught, three teaching materials).

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $6,221–$13,224 monthly; anticipated hire range: $6,803–$6,939 monthly. Additional support may include summer research grants, moving expenses, start‑up funds, and a reduced teaching load.
