Admission and Academic Advisor (Student Services Professional II)

Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 per month (hiring range depends on qualifications; not anticipated to exceed $5,083 - $5,254 per month)
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening, and/or weekend hours. Temporary position ending on or before June 30, 2027, with possibility of annual renewal if funds and/or program needs exist.
The Elementary and Bilingual Education department within the Division of the College of Education prepares educators for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through eighth grade and offers a multitude of credential, bilingual authorization, and master’s programs.
Duties and Responsibilities- Coordinate admission process, procedures, and student advising for credential and graduate programs in the Elementary and Bilingual Education Department.
- Provide information on admission requirements, program completion requirements, academic notice and stop‑out policies for credential and master’s students.
- Assist students with class selection and transcript evaluation using university and department policies and procedures.
- Monitor graduate writing requirement completion and review and recommend approval of graduation checks.
- Coordinate outreach and recruitment activities, with special effort to recruit students from underrepresented populations.
- Coordinate program overviews and new student orientation; coordinate admission interviews and assign students to cohorts.
- Maintain and update program websites and social media content.
- Participate in applicable meetings, committees, and trainings.
- Collaborate with student teaching placement coordinator for incoming and re‑entry students; collaborate with department chair on content development and maintain updates to all student candidate handbooks and forms.
- Collaborate with Center for Careers in Teaching to ensure program updates are communicated to future teachers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide a JEIE statement and answer the following questions:
What do justice, equity, and inclusion mean to you? A description of your experience working with a wide range of people. A description of how issues of justice, equity, or inclusion have impacted you personally or professionally.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a behavioral science, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
- Two years of professional experience in a student services program area or related field (a master’s degree may substitute one year of experience).
- General knowledge of organizational management, research, and interview techniques.
- Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual information, advise students individually and in groups on complex matters.
- Logical reasoning, initiative, planning, supervision, coordination, and organization skills.
- Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures and overall organization.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Experience working within educator preparation programs or supporting students pursuing careers in education.
- Knowledge of undergraduate‑to‑credential and graduate pathways, transfer articulation, and subject matter preparation as they relate to teacher preparation programs.
- Experience in a higher education setting.
- Knowledge of CMS/People Soft or similar systems and familiarity with university catalog and related publications.
- Experience developing workshops, correspondence, and utilizing a student tracking database.
- Ability to compile, collect, and analyze data for program review and annual reports.
- A valid California driver’s license and/or reliable means of transportation.
- Provide support for College of Education Credential and Commencement ceremonies.
- Ability to lift and carry program materials (up to 25 pounds) with or without accommodation.
