Child Care Teacher I
Position Summary: Responsible for planning and implementing a campus child‑care instructional program, providing instruction and directing activities for preschool children, preparing instructional materials, and maintaining various reports.
Essential Functions: Includes planning curriculum, observing and assessing child development, communicating with parents, ensuring safety, maintaining a clean environment, cooking and serving meals, and participating in meetings and diversity initiatives.
Responsibilities- Implement programs designed to meet the individual needs of children, including music, creative arts, language arts, literature, science and math.
- Set up and supervise learning activities geared toward preschool children.
- Observe and assess child development to ensure classroom activities meet their needs.
- Provide information to parents regarding the program and communicate regularly about child development.
- Ensure safety of children by observing and directing behavior according to approved policies.
- Educate children on health and safety practices; assist with personal hygiene, toileting and hand washing.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment; cook and serve meals and snacks; perform light housekeeping and sanitizing of surfaces, bathrooms, supplies and equipment.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports related to the program.
- Attend and participate in a variety of meetings, educational conferences, parent‑teacher conferences, seminars and open houses.
- Consult with professionals regarding children’s development and concerns; communicate with faculty on student progress and related instructional issues.
- Create and maintain records and files; assist parents in registering children; prepare attendance records.
- Order and maintain equipment, supplies, and materials as needed.
- Train and provide work direction and guidance to others as directed.
- Apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software) to perform duties efficiently.
- Participate in district/college diversity efforts to increase faculty and staff diversity; attend diversity, equity and inclusion trainings and events.
- Perform related duties and services as assigned, including grant‑program services such as home visits.

- Current concepts in Early Childhood Education.
- District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
- Applicable statutes and regulations.
- Child psychology and development.
- Curriculum planning for child development programs.
- Method of observing, evaluating and recording child behavior.
- Use of materials, tools and equipment in early childhood development.
- Health and safety regulations and practices.
- Record‑keeping techniques.
- Creating learning environments and implementing activities.
- Planning and providing basic instruction and activities for students and young children.
- Interacting with children with warmth, personal respect and responsiveness.
- Organizing, prioritizing work and meeting schedules.
- Understanding and following oral and written directions.
- Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Training and providing work direction to staff and students.
- Valid Pediatric CPR, First Aid and AED certification.
- Applicable federal and state licensing requirements must be met.
- Pass fingerprint clearance for all appropriate agencies.
- Provide a legible transcript of coursework; may be unofficial.
- Training in Preventative Health Practices after hire.
- Completion of at least twelve (12) semester units of coursework in early childhood education/child development (exclusive of field work) with at least one course in each core area: child/human growth and development; child, family and community; programs/curriculum.
- Fifty days of instructional experience in a child care program, working at least three hours per day within the last two years (or equivalent).
- Alternative equivalent qualifications that meet eligibility for the Child Development Associate Teacher Permit.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
