Salary Range: $5,540 - $6,128 per month, depending on qualifications.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend hours.
Role OverviewThe Graduation Specialist works in the Undeclared and Academic Advising department within the Division of Academic Affairs, supporting undergraduate students—especially those who have not yet declared a major—by providing academic advising and major exploration guidance. The position reports to the Executive Director of Academic Advising and collaborates with the Associate Dean for the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences.
Responsibilities- Provide academic advising and information on university policies, procedures, and graduation requirements to upper‑division, undergraduate, and college‑specific student populations.
- Utilize a developmental, problem‑solving approach to assist students with degree completion and formulate interventions to promote student success.
- Design and implement strategic retention programs; collaborate with the Director of Academic Advising and Assistant Director of Advising.
- Determine individualized solutions for students, including campus services and resources, and track student cohorts for degree completion.
- Conduct complex one‑on‑one and group advising sessions; coordinate college‑based interactive seminars for graduating seniors.
- Analyze assessment and retention data, prepare reports, and present findings to Academic Advising leadership.
- Collaborate with departments and faculty to facilitate New Student Orientation, Transfer Student advising, and academic success workshops.
- Serve as liaison between Graduation Unit, colleges, departments, and records to address challenges and lower deferred graduation rates.
- Maintain database of student interactions, challenges, and outcomes; report documented evidence of case studies requiring additional support.
- Act as spokesperson and participate in program evaluation and development.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a related field with upper‑division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution plus at least three years of professional student services experience.
- Master’s or doctoral degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a related field can substitute for years of experience as specified.
- Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Analytical skills to interpret complex situations and recommend effective actions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of campus procedures.
- Background check required.
- Experience advising students in a higher‑education setting.
- Evidence of implementing a solution‑based approach to facilitate graduation and academic success.
