POSITION
The Environmental Studies Graduate Program at CSUF invites applicants for its part‑time faculty pool on an ongoing basis. The master's program in Environmental Studies is a broadly based, interdisciplinary program that focuses on human interaction with the environment. The program is geared for students entering the rapidly expanding environmental field, especially in environmental science, planning and regulation, and environmental education. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of environmental challenges, the program seeks to integrate paradigms and approaches from a range of related disciplines in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
With 60‑100 graduate students, the program offers an exciting and rewarding academic experience for its students and its faculty.
We are seeking highly motivated, well‑organized individuals for possible teaching assignments in the following courses:
- Air Quality Management
- Environmental Education
- Environmental Hydrology
- Environmental Impact Assessment
- Environmental Planning
- Environmental Policy
This is a pool of part‑time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available. Appointments from the part‑time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- PhD, or a Master’s degree with considerable professional experience. Disciplinary background and professional expertise should be consistent with the course content.
- Teaching experience, with applied environmental expertise, and experience addressing environmental challenges in the Southern California context.
- Demonstrate ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first‑generation college students.
- Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
- Relevant work experience and professional capabilities.

The need for part‑time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring term runs from the middle of January through the end of May. On rare occasions part‑time faculty are needed during one of the Summer Session segments.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONRegular performance evaluations of part‑time lecturers are made by the department in accordance with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future teaching assignments and may involve review of syllabi, assignments, and reading material by the departmental personnel committee.
APPOINTMENT AND SALARYAll part‑time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only.
