Position
Part-time lecturer in Chinese Studies to teach undergraduate courses in Chinese language, culture, business, art, literature, linguistics and/or film.
Areas of Specialization- Chinese Language, Introductory to Advanced
- Chinese Culture, Chinese Civilization, and Contemporary China
- Chinese for Business
- Chinese Literature, Intermediate to Advanced
- Chinese Linguistics
- Chinese Film
Teach courses in at least two of the above subject areas; interact and work effectively with a diverse student population.
Required Qualifications- Minimum master's degree in Chinese, Chinese Studies, or related field with native-like fluency to teach lower-division courses.
- Ph.D. (or Ph.D. candidate) in Chinese Studies or related field with native-like fluency to teach upper-division courses.
- Legal right to work in the United States;
California residency required at time of hiring. - Availability to begin teaching on very short notice.
- Experience interacting with culturally diverse students, including first-generation college students.
- Prior teaching experience at college or university level with evidence of effective teaching.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering inclusive environment.
- Relevant professional work experience.
Initial appointment for one semester, paid monthly, prorated to units worked. Classification range $5,507-$6,677 per month; anticipated range not to exceed $6,221 per month. For three-unit assignments compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.
Appointment Dates and Academic CalendarPart-time faculty most needed in Fall and Spring semesters. Fall term late August to mid-December;
Spring term mid-January to end of May; occasional Summer Session demand.
Regular faculty evaluations determine retention for future assignments; syllabi, assignments, and reading material may be reviewed.
