Job Overview

Department of Religious Studies, CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑Time Lecturer Pool to teach undergraduate courses.

Lecturers may teach in face‑to‑face or asynchronous online formats, depending on program needs.

Appointments are temporary, often made just prior to the start of an academic term, and require availability on short notice.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate courses in Religious Studies or related fields.

Prepare and deliver lectures, assignments, and assessments that support a culturally diverse, inclusive learning environment.

Work with the department to develop syllabi, course materials, and provide instructional support in both face‑to‑face and online settings.

Participate in performance evaluations to determine retention for future assignments.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Religious Studies or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a wide, culturally diverse student body, including first‑generation college students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive classroom environment.
  • Relevant professional experience and the ability to bring professional capabilities into teaching.
Appointment and Salary
  • Appointment as Lecturer under the Collective Bargaining Agreement between CSU and the California Faculty Association.
  • Initial appointments are for one semester only.
  • Classification Range: $5,507 – $6,677 per month.
  • Anticipated hiring range, based on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month.
  • For a three‑unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.

Performance Evaluation

Regular evaluations are conducted by the department in accordance with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070, determining lecturer retention and future assignments.

Appointment Date and Academic Calendar

The need for part‑time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term generally runs from late August to mid‑December; the Spring term from mid‑January to end of May. Occasional positions may arise during Summer Session segments.

Mandatory Reporting and Background Clearance

The position requires the holder to be a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse And Neglect Reporting Act and to comply with CSU Executive Order 1083. The offer is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check; continued employment requires successful completion of any required re‑screening.

Out‑of‑State Employment Policy

In accordance with the CSU Out‑of‑State Employment Policy, the university is a state entity whose operations reside within California, requiring hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work within the state.
