The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑Time Lecturer pool in Vietnamese Studies to teach undergraduate courses in Vietnamese language, culture, business, art, literature, linguistics and/or film.
Areas of SpecializationWe are seeking individuals to teach in at least two of the following subject areas:
- Vietnamese Language, Introductory to Advanced
- Vietnamese Culture, Civilization, and Contemporary Vietnam
- Vietnamese for Business
- Vietnamese Literature
- Vietnamese Film
This pool draws on lecturers as required; appointments are temporary and are often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Candidates must be available on short notice.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in Vietnamese Studies or related field and native‑like fluency in Vietnamese for lower‑division courses;
Ph.D. (or Ph.D. candidate) with native‑like fluency for upper‑division courses. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse, culturally varied students, including first‑generation college students.
- Legal right to work in the United States. California State University, Fullerton does not sponsor work visas or permanent residence for part‑time faculty.
- Residency in California at the time of hiring.
- Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment.
- Relevant professional work experience and capabilities.

All appointments are for one semester. Classification range: $5,507–$6,677 per month. Anticipated range not to exceed $6,221 per month. Compensation prorated per unit and paid in six monthly payments. For a three‑unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester. Academic CalendarNeed for part‑time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters. Fall begins late August to mid‑December;
Spring runs mid‑January to end of May. Summer sessions are occasionally needed.
Regular performance evaluations by the department, in accordance with the CSU Union Agreement, determine who is retained for future assignments. Syllabi and course materials may be reviewed by the personnel committee.
Mandated Reporter & Background CheckThe position requires the individual to be a mandated reporter under California law and a satisfactory background check is required for employment and re‑hire.
EligibilityApplicants must hold legal right to work in U.S., no visa sponsorship for part‑time faculty, and reside in California. This requirement cannot be waived.
