DescriptionUpward Bound (UB) provides students with the necessary support services to pursue a higher education and aims at fostering the next generation of college graduates. Our goal is to increase the number of students progressing onto higher education who are successful in the baccalaureate and beyond. Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO program designed primarily to assist low-income and potential first-generation college students with enrolling and preparing to succeed in college, at the following Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) schools:
Magnolia, and Savanna High School; and Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) schools:
Santa Ana, Saddleback, Century, and Valley High School. The program provides tailored academic advisement, academic support, and college access programming for students to ensure that they are provided with the highest-quality opportunities to be successful in college.
The primary role of the Saturday Success Academy (SSA) Math Instructor will be to expose participants to academically rigorous and college preparatory coursework. Along with the academically rigorous curriculum set forth by other components of the CSUF Upward Bound (UB) Program, the SSA looks to develop student’s leadership and lifelong skills. The skill sets they acquire will help scholars as they transition from high school to college, graduate school, and to their eventual careers
The goal for the Saturday Success Academy is to ensure each student is developing the essential skills to become analytical, self-sufficient, problem-solver, and critical thinker. The primary role of the instructor will be to expose participants to academically rigorous and college preparatory coursework. Saturday Academy dates: 9/26/26, 10/24/26, 11/14/26, 12/5/26, 1/23/27, 2/20/27, 3/17/27, and 4/17/27.

Essential Duties- Develop and implement creative hands-on curriculum to be delivered throughout eight (8), monthly SSA sessions tailored for 9th & 10th graders focused on core subjects:
Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2. - Prepare and submit lesson plans prior to instruction.
- Assist participants and program staff to establish and maintain acceptable classroom behavior and standards.
- Communicate regularly with Project Director and program staff to ensure the academic development of participants.
- Assess and report on participants' progress by administering a pre and post assessment instrument(s).
- Encourages an atmosphere that stimulates a learning environment that cultivates critical thinking and a commitment to lifelong learning.
- Facilitate active and collaborative learning for 25 – 30 students per class section, rising 9th –10th grades.
- Facilitate two (2) class sections each Saturday Academy date.
- Attend monthly staff meetings with Project Director and other Project staff.
- Additional responsibilities include submitting a course syllabus stating the goals and objectives of the class and the methods of attaining those goals. These goals should be aligned with the objectives of the Upward Bound Program.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Experience teaching high school students.
- Experience in the process of articulating student and instructional needs.
- Ability to work in collaborative teaching environments and the ability to develop effective teaching strategies from these collaborative spaces.
- Experience working with first generation and low-income students.
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree.
- Single Subject Teaching Credential in respective course subject area.
