In this job, you’ll serve as a key liaison between customers and internal teams, ensuring projects are planned, designed, and executed successfully from initiation through completion. The role is responsible for identifying customer project needs, developing constructable work orders, and coordinating project activities throughout the project lifecycle.

As District Planning Senior Specialist, your work will help power our planet, reduce carbon emissions and create cleaner air for everyone.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct long‑term grid import planning analyses, transmission interconnection assessments, and design projects. Manage large design projects from inception to construction completion, ensuring compliance of electrical designs and adherence to policies, procedures, rates, and completion dates.
  • Support the company’s electrical distribution system by developing plans, identifying necessary resources, and providing cost estimates for the construction of distribution facilities.
  • Makes decisions that directly impact project course, timing, scope, and budget.
  • Perform field inspections to gather data for planning and development review, verifying that projects comply with approved plans.
  • Assess the regional distribution system’s capabilities and compliance with planning criteria.
  • Conduct power‑flow studies, build power‑flow models, and prepare economic analyses for short‑ and long‑term distribution system plans.
  • Ensure distribution system performance meets reliability targets and analyze outages for cause, trends, and duration.
  • Coordinate activities with other personnel and organizations to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, rates, and completion dates.
  • Stay current on industry practices, standards, and customer needs; interact with a diverse customer base to meet electrical design needs and achieve successful outcomes.
  • Provide training and support, managing workload when necessary.
  • Protect physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets and handle highly sensitive information with integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three or more years of experience in Electrical Utility Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Design, Line Construction, or Engineering discipline.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven ability to apply engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
  • Experience determining scope of work, service method, and above‑ground or underground construction methods.
  • Proficiency with wind/pole loading applications, drafting systems, GIS, or related design systems (e.g., SPIDA Calc, Autodesk AUD, cGIS, SAP).
  • Experience preparing work orders, construction plans, or project packages.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical or customer projects under shifting priorities.
  • Effective cross‑team collaboration with clients, peers, management, and agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership or mentorship experience.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience managing customer or stakeholder interactions in a technical, construction, or utility environment, providing clear information, addressing inquiries, and coordinating solutions.
Additional Information
  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Work mode may change based on business needs.
