In this role, you will support SCE’s regulatory requirements for its electrical distribution system by developing and designing plans, identifying necessary resources, and providing cost estimates and options for constructing distribution facilities. You will interact with a diverse customer base to meet electrical design needs and be responsible for delivering successful outcomes on assigned or requested projects.
Responsibilities- Conduct long‑term grid import planning analyses and transmission interconnection assessments and projects.
- Manage large design projects from inception to construction completion, ensuring compliance of electrical designs with policies, procedures, rules, rates, and completion dates.
- Make decisions impacting project scope, timing, budget, and course.
- Perform field inspections to gather data relevant to the planning and development review process and verify compliance with approved plans.
- Assess the capabilities of the regional distribution system and its compliance with the planning criteria.
- Conduct power flow studies, build power flow models, and prepare economic analyses to develop short‑ and long‑term distribution system plans.
- Ensure the distribution system performance meets reliability targets and analyze outages for cause, trends, and duration.
- Coordinate activities with internal personnel and external organizations to ensure compliance and appropriate follow‑through of policies, procedures, rules, rates, and completion dates applicable to assigned projects.
- Stay up to date on current industry practices, standards, and customer needs; interact with a diverse customer base on meeting electrical design needs and provide successful outcomes for customers and SCE.
- Provide training and support, assessing and managing workload when necessary.
- Protect physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets and properly manage private customer data and other highly sensitive information with high standards of conduct and integrity.
- Three or more years of experience in Electrical Utility Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Design, Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Line Construction, or Engineering discipline.
- Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
- Experience with CAD‑based design, able to read and revise designs within AUD and Blue Beam.
- Experience determining scope of work, customer service, project management, method of service, and construction methods for overhead and underground facilities.
- Experience preparing distribution work orders or construction plans for projects.
- Experience analyzing and/or designing engineered civil drawings.
- Experience managing multiple and/or sensitive projects and functioning effectively under tight time constraints, shifting priorities, and making critical decisions with minimal supervision.
- Experience serving as a project leader for the design and implementation of design projects, as well as planning, influencing, anticipating, and communicating operational conditions, trends, and corrective actions.
- Able to drive, traverse uneven surfaces, occasionally lift up to 40 lb., sit or stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions.
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline such as Civil Engineering, Construction, Architecture, etc.
- This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
