Position Overview

Industrial Mechanic specifically as Four-Slide Setup Mechanic. This position is a core technical role responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining Four-Slide (4-Slide) wire-forming machines to produce precision-formed components for consumer and industrial applications. This is a leadership position requiring the ability to lead a mechanic and maintenance team. Mechanical discipline, timing expertise, blueprint literacy, and the ability to deliver repeatable, high-quality production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment a must.

You will be responsible for full team and machine ownership: setup, timing, tooling changes, first-article validation, and continuous monitoring of part quality throughout the production run.

Key Responsibilities Machine Setup & Operation
  • Perform complete setups on Four-Slide machines, including tooling installation, cam timing, feed adjustments, cutoff alignment, and slide synchronization.
  • Operate machines to produce wire-formed parts according to engineering specifications and production requirements.
  • Conduct first-article inspections and adjust machine parameters to achieve dimensional accuracy and repeatability.
  • Maintain optimal machine performance through lubrication, alignment checks, and preventive maintenance.
Troubleshooting & Mechanical Diagnostics
  • Visually inspect, listen, and evaluate machine behavior to identify root causes of malfunctions.
  • Diagnose issues related to timing, tooling wear, feed length, wire straightness, spring back, and material inconsistencies.
  • Resolve mechanical problems quickly to minimize downtime and scrap.
  • Document mechanical issues and corrective actions for continuous improvement.
Quality & Measurement
  • Use precision measuring tools including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and specialized wire-forming inspection fixtures.
  • Verify part dimensions, bend angles, radii, and tolerances against blueprints and QC requirements.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control to ensure parts meet GD&T and customer specifications.
Blueprint, Tooling, and Technical Interpretation
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, tooling diagrams, and engineering drawings.
  • Understand forming sequences, tooling interactions, and cam-driven timing logic.
  • Work with prototype tooling, surface grinders and related equipment when required.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all machine guarding, PPE, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Report hazards, near-misses, and mechanical risks immediately.
Teamwork & Communication
  • Communicate clearly with Production, QC, Engineering, and Maintenance teams.
  • Support training of junior mechanics when needed. Ability to diagnose, delegate and train.
  • Provide accurate setup documentation, and production feedback.
Qualifications Required
  • 3–5 years hands‑on mechanical experience in industrial manufacturing.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
  • Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, and precision measuring tools.
  • High school diploma or GED.
Preferred
  • Direct experience with Four‑Slide machines (e.g., Nilson, Bihler, Torrington, Waterbury).
  • Experience with surface grinders, prototype tooling, or machine shop equipment.
  • Understanding of cam timing, forming sequences, and wire‑forming principles.
  • A personal mechanic’s toolbox suitable for industrial and Four‑Slide machine work.
