Supervising Building Service Engineer

Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University's facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services.

We seek an exceptional individual to join our Building Service Engineers team as the Supervising Building Service Engineer. Salary Range: $7,497 - $9,321 per month

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend hours.

Essential

Qualifications:

Two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment and systems or the equivalent combination of formal course work in mechanical technology and hands-on experience. Two or more years of experience working as a journey-level crafts worker in one or more applicable mechanical or related trades, including at least one year in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Thorough knowledge of high- and low-pressure boilers, heating, pneumatic, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment. Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and materials used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment. General knowledge of ventilation principles, thermal dynamics, and closed water systems. Working knowledge of energy management systems including the ability to understand and use system features. Thorough knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques.

Working knowledge of job design and work sequencing related to renovation and installation projects. Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal safety codes and regulations pertaining to mechanical and HVAC systems. Ability to install, operate, and repair HVAC equipment and systems. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to make rough sketches and estimate cost, time, and materials for mechanical work.

Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Ability to prepare standard reports, provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants, and analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. Ability to maintain currency in applicable industrial safety orders and regulations pertaining to facilities, HVAC, and related equipment.

Ability to plan and direct the work of skilled crafts workers and semi-skilled workers and coordinate staffing, material, and equipment needs for multiple jobs and projects. Ability to perform basic design work, read blueprints, and work from plans and specifications. Ability to prepare rough sketches and read and interpret complex operating manuals. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

Ability to ensure accuracy and maintenance of assigned record-keeping systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Five or more years of experience working as a journey-level crafts worker in the field of HVAC/R and related systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and operating manuals.

Working Conditions:

May need to use a respirator. Work in a variety of temperature and environmental conditions while also walking on uneven ground. Work is performed in mechanical spaces, rooftops, and tunnels. Requires climbing, lifting, and adherence to safety procedures (Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA)/Cal/OSHA).
