Salary Range: $5,540 - $7,893 per month (hiring range depending on qualifications)
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening and/or weekend hours.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Executive Director of Academic Advising and collaborating with the Associate Dean for the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences, the Graduation Specialist:
- Provides academic advising and information on university policies, procedures, and graduation requirements to upper division, undergraduate, and college specific student populations.
- Utilizes an advanced, developmental, problem‑solving approach rather than prescriptive application when assisting students with degree completion.
- Supports the design and implementation of strategic retention programs and develops interventions to promote student success.
- Determines approaches and techniques for advising situations independently within established parameters.
- Recommends changes on a variety of matters within and outside the area of assignment.
- Collaborates with departments and faculty to plan, organize, and coordinate college‑based interactive seminars for graduating seniors.
- Analyzes individual and group challenges, prepares reports, and presents information for collaborative review.
- Conducts complex one‑on‑one and group student service advising sessions and coordinates related administrative planning.
- Participates in New Student Orientation, Transfer Student advising, student retention initiatives, and academic success workshops.
- Provides support to students requiring Grad Check/Titan Degree Audit corrections and guidance on applying for graduation.
- Collaborates closely with Records to address identified student challenges and develops action plans for degree completion.
- Maintains a database of students supported, challenges experienced, and overall outcomes; presents information to leadership.
- Reports documented evidence and progress of case studies requiring additional support.
- Analyzes deferred graduation data, identifies common trends and errors, and provides solution‑centered recommendations.
- Develops, implements, and assesses programs designed to increase retention and facilitate graduation.
- Acts as liaison between various units to ensure efficiency and close the achievement gap for underrepresented and first‑generation students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited four‑year college or university, with upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.
- At least three years of professional student services work in the field; substitution: a master’s degree with one year of professional experience, or a doctoral degree with appropriate internship or clinical training and three years of experience.
- Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities.
- Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Analytical skills to assess complex situations and adopt effective courses of action.
- Skill in advising students individually and in groups on complex matters.
- Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and familiarity with campus procedures.
- Successful completion of a background check (including criminal records).
- Experience advising students in a higher education setting.
- Evidence of implementing a solution‑based approach to facilitate graduation and student academic success.
- A valid California driver’s license.
