Senior Accountant

Callaway Electric Cooperative is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance and Accounting team. This position is responsible for performing day-to-day accounting functions and supporting the financial operations of the cooperative and its subsidiary companies under the direction of the Manager of Finance and Accounting .

For 90 years, Callaway Electric Cooperative has provided safe, reliable electric service to homes, farms, businesses, and communities throughout central Missouri. In addition to providing electric service, Callaway Electric owns and operates Callabyte Technology, LLC , a fiber broadband company delivering high-speed internet service throughout central Missouri.

The Senior Accountant performs a variety of accounting and financial reporting duties to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial records for Callaway Electric Cooperative and its subsidiary companies, including Callabyte Technology, LLC . This position assists with financial reporting, budgeting, audits, account reconciliations, and process improvement initiatives while supporting the overall financial health of the organization.

• Perform daily accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
• Maintain the financial records and accounting functions for Callaway Electric Cooperative's subsidiary companies, including Callabyte Technology, LLC , ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
• Assist with preparation of the annual operating budget and financial forecasts.
• Assist with the annual financial audit and preparation of audit schedules.
• Prepare tax filings and other required financial reports.
• Analyze financial data and prepare reports for management.
• Maintain strong internal controls and recommend improvements to accounting processes.
• Support accounts payable, payroll, and other accounting functions as needed.
• Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and cooperative accounting policies.
• Utilize the NISC Financials accounting system to maintain accurate financial records and reporting.
• Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Three to five years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience in the utility or electric cooperative industry.
• Experience using the NISC Financials accounting system.
• Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, fixed asset accounting, payroll, and internal controls.
• Experience with accounting for multiple business entities or subsidiary companies.
