Job DescriptionThe Postsecondary Advisor is embedded in school districts to proactively help high school students through each step of career exploration and postsecondary attainment. Performance will be evaluated by monthly tracking of key metrics related to student and program performance. Partnering with high school counselors, this position works with students in developing and expanding Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAP), supporting students to enroll in college (college fit discussion, applications, and orientation), to earn a workplace credential, to enlist in the armed services, to complete the FAFSA, and more.
This is a 10-month position (August 1, 2026, through May 31, 2027). This job reports to the Principal.
Essential Functions- Meet one‑on‑one with each high school senior multiple times per semester to help each student develop and succeed in their post‑secondary plans.
- Build relationships with all high school students through regular meetings to help them with decisions related to post‑secondary planning.
- Monitor and document the progress of high school students related to key performance data metrics.
- Refine and expand Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAP) for all high school students that align with coursework and activities that help achieve personal career goals, post‑secondary planning, and individual pathway options.
- Ensure all seniors progress through each stage of the financial aid process, from FAFSA completion through verification.
- Understand and navigate high school students through each step of the college application process, including housing applications, scholarship applications, and completing each step of college orientation.
- Develop case‑management strategies to increase post‑secondary application, FAFSA completion, and post‑secondary planning and attainment for partner district high school students.
- Connect high school students to needed internal and external resources to aid their success and goal attainment.
- Work closely with high school counselors to ensure a smooth transition to post‑secondary success for high school students.
- Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
- Comply with district policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including attending school‑sponsored functions, serving on committees and attending community events.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the Guidance program and school.
Job Requirements:Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills: applying assessment instruments; preparing and maintaining accurate records; planning and managing projects; and using pertinent software applications.
Knowledge: algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies include stages of child development; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; community resources; and treatment modalities and assessment.
Ability: scheduling a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gathering, collating, and/or classifying data; using basic job‑related equipment. Flexibility to work independently with others, analyze data using complex processes, operate equipment. Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines and schedules; set priorities; work as part of a team; and handle frequent interruptions.
ResponsibilityResponsibilities include working under limited supervision, leadership, coordination of others, operating within a defined budget, and utilizing resources from other work units.
Working EnvironmentPhysical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, fine finger dexterity. Requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, 30% standing. Work in a generally hazard‑free environment.
AttendanceConsistent regular attendance is essential.
ExperienceJob related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
EducationBachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Certificates and LicensesMissouri School Counseling Certificate preferred.
Continuing Education/TrainingMaintains Certificates and/or Licenses;
State Required PD Hours.
FBI Fingerprint and Family Care Registry.
FLSA StatusExempt.
