Maintains the City parks in a clean and safe manner for public enjoyment. This year-round employment. Responsible for maintenance associated with 14 parks consisting of 240 acres, City Pool, and Legends Rec-Plex.

Experience, Education, and Training

• Experience and proficiency with grounds assessment, painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
• Knowledge of and experience with the operation of a backhoe.
• Ability to operate a welder.
• Ability to deal with wildlife and conservation matters.

Requirements

• Must pass pre-employment drug testing and submit to periodic drug testing as required by applicable laws.
• May be required to work weekends or a variety of shifts.
• Subject to emergency call-in.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Must have a valid CDL (A or
  
  B) Drivers’ License.

OR

• Must take and pass, at minimum, the written portion of the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) exam (permit) within 90 days of hire.

AND

• A class “B” CDL, at minimum, must then be obtained within the 6-month probationary period.

• Operate and maintain power equipment and vehicles, such as tractors and attachments

• Count, add, subtract, and multiply two-digit whole numbers
• Read, write and speak English at a level to satisfactorily perform the work

Essential Functions *

• Maintains the ball fields and grounds and sprays the grass in the parks on a seasonal basis assuring for a clean and safe environment and for positive public relations.
• Maintains playground equipment, public rest rooms and other facilities including painting and repair work, assuring that it is safe for children to play on.
• Assists with carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical projects as needed assuring for completeness and for safety for self and all others.
• Sets up equipment and any needed items for special events assuring for safety.
• Assists with snow removal as needed assuring for availability. Maintains a state of readiness when storms are forecast.
• Installs and maintains landscaping as requested.
• Deals with supervisor, coworkers, and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
• Responds to requests by immediate supervisor in an accurate, complete and timely manner.
• Performs work assignments efficiently and timely, making productive use of time between assignments.
• Maintains an awareness of safety issues relating to equipment and vehicle operation assuring for protection of self, coworkers, and equipment.
• Supervises and trains seasonal grounds crews assuring for professionalism.
• Attends outside programs and seminars assuring an awareness for new developments in the field and assuring continuing professional developments.
