Northern Lights Locating and Inspection, Inc. was created in March of 2001 to provide services to clients needing to protect their utility networks. Beyond traditional 'Paint and Flag' service, the company delivers locating and inspection expertise, operates 24/7, and has expanded into sewer imaging and inspection.

• Locate underground utilities for clients and property owners based on 811 tickets and 811 dig laws
• Use utility maps, as-built civil engineering drawings, GIS information, and various pipe and electronic locating equipment
• Utilize flags and/or paint to mark the location of underground utilities
• Prepare reports, forms, and memos to document work completed, problems encountered, and resolved
• Takes pictures of the located utility lines for each 811 ticket
• Investigates and documents excavations that result in damage to underground utilities
• Use a cell-phone-based app to record locating marks, photos, and required documentation
• Participate in on-call rotation

• Know best locating practices, procedures, and 811 law
• Read and interpret utility maps and as-built civil engineering drawings
• Maintain cleanliness and good operating condition of all provided equipment and vehicle
• Maintain a tobacco-free vehicle
• Locate underground utilities using multiple methods of locating
• Understand and carry out written and oral instructions
• Maintain small-to-medium-sized equipment and trucks
• Complete paperwork and documentation
• Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc.
• Attention to detail
• Work in all weather conditions
• Willingness to travel (75%+)
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Pass drug screen
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a DOT physical certification
• Available for varying schedules, overtime, and maintain regular attendance and punctuality
