Overview
Position Overview
The Solid Waste Services Division of the City of Fulton provides waste collection and disposal services to residential households and commercial establishments.
Experience, Education, and Training
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)
- Two years related experience in solid waste management (preferred)
- Driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Requirements
- Must pass pre-employment drug test and submit to periodic drug testing as required by applicable laws.
- May be required to work weekends or a variety of shifts.
- Subject to emergency call-in.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Must have a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with required endorsements
For those without a CDL license, the City of Fulton can provide assistance in obtaining a CDL License.
Abilities- Ability to operate required machinery and fulfill duties of the position
- Verbal and written communication skills to interpret instructions and respond to customers
- Ability to learn proper operation of front load, roll off, & fork truck containers
- Basic mathematical skills
- Problem-solving skills to resolve problems with known variables
- Operate heavy-duty packer refuse collection trucks.
- Inspects the collection vehicle for proper mechanical functioning.
- Maintain equipment by performing minor vehicle maintenance, such as checking tire inflation, cleaning the cab, and washing the truck’s exterior
- Report any maintenance needs to the supervisor or to the garage.
- Collects garbage, recyclables, brush, and other materials on assigned routes
- Dump residential carts or commercial-style containers into the truck.
- Transport waste to the transfer station.
- May include servicing roll-off containers.
- Leave notifications for customers and report to the supervisor regarding violations of regulations.
- Leave notice messages and/or instructions to homeowners about special services.
- Read & understand route sheets to determine street address & type of services needed.
- Complies with local rules and regulations.
- Cleans the truck at the end of each workday.
- Consults with supervisor on any route changes or hazardous driving conditions.
- May pick up, carry, and empty refuse into the appropriate vehicle, which includes lifting and carrying bins and materials weighing 40 pounds.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Physical
:
Ability to use strength and stamina to work in a superheated environment while wearing up to 100 lbs. of full protection gear including self-contained breathing apparatus; work in extreme fluctuations in temperatures; strength to operate heavy tools and equipment up to 80 lbs. for up to 30 minutes; stoop, bend, and lift continually over time; strength and endurance to remove an unconscious adult from a hazardous situation.
Mental
:
Ability to work with one or a large group of severely injured, maimed, or dead persons; control stress and follow directions in a life-threatening environment; work in confined spaces and at heights greater than 10 feet; enter dangerous areas and perform dangerous tasks; and awareness under pressure of changing fire or hazard conditions. Ability to communicate, understand, and follow oral and written instructions;
establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, and work within the confines of a fire station for 24 hours or more.
