Director Of Special Education
The Fulton City School District has an opening for the Director of Special Education. This is a probationary position. Starting salary is $112,160, commensurate with experience. Applicants must have or be eligible for New York administrative certification (SBL, SDL). The Director of Special Education will provide leadership, long-range planning, management, and support for a continuum of services that meets the needs of all students within the Fulton City School District who receive the special education and/or related services.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure that resources necessary to facilitate students' attainment of the knowledge and skills central to the learning standards through equitable access to high quality curriculum and instruction.
- Ensure compliance with all NYS special education laws and regulations to provide a continuum of services designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities
- Complete annual and periodic required reporting to NYSED
- Act as a liaison with the State Education Department
- Lead Manifestation Determination Reviews as part of the disciplinary hearing process
- Supervise the timely and appropriate evaluation and placement of students referred to the Committee on Special Education
- Chair, or delegate a person to chair, Committee on Special Education meetings
- Review IEPs and related documentation
- Apply for variances when required
- Plan for and oversee special education department budget
- Pursues grant opportunities, participates in grant writing and grant program management aligned with district needs and goals
- Payment for contracted services, as well as tuition for students placed outside the district
- Accommodations/materials based on student need
- Lead oversight, training, and planning for annual administration of the NYSAA for eligible students
- Supervise planning and implementation of Extended School Year (ESY) Program for qualifying students with significant needs
- Evaluates instructional staff, in partnerships with principals, to promote growth and success for both educators and students
- Develop and implement a high-quality transition framework to ensure student success progressing throughout their educational career in the least restrictive environment
- CPSE to CSE transition
- Elementary to Junior High transition
- Junior High to High School transition
- High School to Post-Graduation transition
- Transitions between special education programs within the district
- Transitions to or from CiTi BOCES programs
- Create and manage measurement systems to track adoption, utilization, and proficiency of systemic change
- Oversee implementation of high quality standards-based curriculum for all special needs students through collaboration with instructional directors, coaches, and building leadership
- In collaboration with the instructional leaders of the district and schools, leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive multi-tiered system of support designed to meet the needs of all students. Utilizes data to make decisions and builds staff capacity to use data for effective instruction and intervention
- Plan, arrange for, and deliver high quality professional development to special education faculty
- Annual Special Education Institute
- Superintendent's Conference Days
- Quarterly Department Meetings
- Communicates with local, state, and national organizations, institutions and agencies regarding instructional practices and curriculum in schools
- Develops and maintains positive professional working relationships with families, students, staff and administrators
- Plan for and deliver quarterly K-6, 7-8, and 9-12 Special Education Department Meetings
