Summer Camp Counselor

The Town of Fuquay-Varina Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is seeking energetic, creative, & dependable individuals to serve as Summer Day Camp Counselors.

This position has been identified as a role that requires a North Carolina SBI criminal history record check based on responsibilities involving work with or around children under 18 years of age. The results of this record check will be used in the hiring decision for this position.

• Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
• Organizes and leads various small and large group activities.
• Under the direction of the Summer Camp Head Counselor, the Summer Camp Counselor will be responsible for assisting with the planning, development, and implementation of program activities.
• Enforces camp rules and ensures safety for all campers.
• Assist with camp clean up if necessary.

• Must have ability to perceive audio & visual alerts for emergency purposes.
• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
• Be able to participate in physical activity for various amounts of time. (Walking, outdoor activities, demonstrating game skills, etc.)

• High School Diploma
• Valid NC Driver’s License
• Previous Employment experiences as a summer camp counselor, childcare provider, or early childhood educator preferred.

• Hourly rate will be determined by experience.

* Tentative start date: June 8th, 2026.

* Camp Training: June 8th - June 12th, 2026

* Camp is scheduled to run from June 15th, 2026 - August 14th, 2026. Counselors will work forty hours a week. Camp hours are from 7:30 am until 5:30 pm. Camp participants are children who have completed grades k-5.
