Key Responsibilities Nursing Leadership:
Provide leadership and guidance to the nursing staff, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and certified nursing assistants (CNAs). Set expectations for performance, establish goals, and promote a culture of excellence in resident care.
Care Planning and Coordination:
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop individualized care plans for residents based on assessments and identified needs. Ensure care plans are regularly reviewed, updated, and implemented. Coordinate and oversee the delivery of nursing care to ensure resident needs are met effectively.
Staff Management:
Manage and supervise nursing staff, including recruitment, hiring, orientation, and ongoing performance evaluation. Provide training, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff competencies and ensure adherence to nursing standards and best practices.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
Monitor and promote compliance with state and federal regulations, facility policies, and quality assurance standards. Conduct regular audits and assessments to evaluate the quality of resident care, documentation, and nursing practices. Implement corrective actions as needed.
Resident Assessment and Evaluation:
Oversee the assessment of residents' physical and mental health, monitor changes in condition, and ensure appropriate interventions are implemented. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to evaluate resident outcomes and adjust care plans.
Staff Education and Training:
Develop and deliver educational programs and training sessions to enhance the knowledge and skills of nursing staff. Stay updated on current trends and best practices in nursing care and disseminate relevant information to the team.
Interdisciplinary
Collaboration:
Foster effective communication and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals. Participate in care conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to optimize resident care outcomes.
Medication Management:
Oversee medication administration processes, including accurate medication orders, storage, and documentation. Ensure compliance with medication protocols and monitor medication practices for safety and effectiveness.
Resource Management:
Collaborate with the healthcare team to manage resources efficiently, including supplies, equipment, and staffing. Monitor and control costs while maintaining quality care standards.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify areas for process improvement and develop strategies to enhance resident care, workflow efficiency, and nursing practices. Participate in performance improvement initiatives and contribute to evidence-based practice.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) is required.
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is preferred, but an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with relevant experience may be considered.
Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role in a healthcare setting, preferably in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care environment.
Strong clinical knowledge and expertise in nursing practice, including assessment, care planning, and documentation.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and staff.
Ability to inspire and motivate a team, promote a positive work environment, and manage conflict effectively.
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and healthcare technology.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
Working Conditions Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the nursing service area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses’ stations, resident rooms, etc.).Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicate with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
