The Deli/Bakery Department Manager oversees all operations of the deli and bakery departments, ensuring high‑quality prepared foods, baked goods, and exceptional customer service. This role is responsible for managing inventory, ensuring food safety compliance, driving sales, and leading a team to meet department goals while maintaining an appealing and efficient department.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily operations, including food preparation, baking, packaging, and merchandising of deli and bakery products to ensure freshness, quality, and attractive presentation.
- Monitor inventory levels, order product and supplies, manage stock rotation, and minimize waste to maintain product quality and reduce shrink.
- Train, schedule, and supervise deli and bakery staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Address customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and provide product knowledge to enhance the shopping experience.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including HACCP, FDA, and local health department standards, for both deli and bakery operations.
- Develop strategies to increase department sales, meet financial targets, and implement promotional displays to drive customer engagement.
- Maintain high standards for product quality, freshness, and presentation in deli cases, bakery displays, and storage areas.
- Manage department budget, control labor costs, and optimize operational efficiency.
- Work closely with store management and other departments to align on store goals, promotions, and operational needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in deli, bakery, or food service operations.
- Strong knowledge of deli and bakery product preparation, handling, and food safety regulations.
- Proven leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency in inventory management systems and basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, POS systems).
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in hot or cold environments.
- Certification in food safety (e.g., Serv Safe) is a plus.
- Experience with merchandising and sales strategies in a retail grocery setting.
- Knowledge of baking techniques, deli meat/cheese handling, or prepared food trends.
