The Campus Safety Specialist is a key support role within the Public Safety Department responsible for coordinating campus safety programs, security technology, emergency preparedness, life‑safety initiatives, compliance requirements, and communication systems across all campuses. This position supports non‑law‑enforcement operations and enhances the College’s overall safety and security posture.
The Specialist collaborates with Public Safety, Campus Directors, Building Safety Representatives, Facilities, Information Technology, Human Resources, Student Services, and the campus community to promote a safe, secure, and compliant learning environment while ensuring continuity of operations and administrative support.
Campus Safety Technology Coordination- Coordinate day‑to‑day administration of access control, video surveillance, and emergency notification systems across all campuses.
- Maintain access control records, credentialing documentation, and access authorization records.
- Maintain documentation related to system users, permissions, inventories, operational records, and assigned security technologies.
- Coordinate access requests and collaborate with building representatives and department heads regarding building access schedules and security needs.
- Coordinate building lock and unlock schedules, holiday schedules, and special event access requirements.
- Conduct periodic reviews of access permissions and coordinate updates with appropriate departments.
- Coordinate authorized video retrieval requests and maintain related documentation.
- Assist with the administration and maintenance of the Cardinal Alert emergency notification system; coordinate periodic testing, training, and user support for Cardinal Alert and other campus safety technology systems.
- Provide training and guidance to authorized users of access control systems, Cardinal Alert, and other assigned campus safety platforms.
- Coordinate with Public Safety, Facilities, Information Technology, and vendors regarding operational issues, maintenance needs, and system improvements.
- Coordinate all required campus drills—including fire, severe weather, active threat, lockdown, evacuation, and other emergency preparedness drills—in accordance with ACCS requirements and college policies; coordinate with building representatives to ensure drills are completed throughout the year; and maintain related records, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate communication and preparedness activities with campus departments and building representatives and assist with emergency operations planning and continuity of operations planning.
- Participate in emergency preparedness initiatives, threat assessment initiatives, campus safety committees, and related activities as assigned.
- Conduct and document monthly AED inspections across all campuses and perform periodic inspections of Naloxone (Narcan) kits, Stop the Bleed kits, emergency response kits, and other designated life‑safety equipment.
- Maintain inspection records, inventories, and replacement schedules for life‑safety equipment and emergency supplies, and coordinate replacement of expired, damaged, or missing supplies.
- Assist in maintaining evacuation maps, emergency procedures, emergency preparedness materials, and related safety postings throughout campus facilities.
- Answer the department's non‑emergency phone line during normal business hours.
- Receive, document, and route requests for service.
- Notify or dispatch Public Safety personnel when assistance is needed.
- Serve as a point of contact for non‑emergency public safety matters.
- Route calls and requests to appropriate college departments when necessary.
- Assist with campus‑wide emergency notifications during emergencies, drills, and testing events.
- Assist with parking enforcement, permit administration, and related processes.
- Maintain parking‑related records and documentation and coordinate parking concerns, complaints, and non‑emergency issues.
