Position Summary

Zachry Construction is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to assist in directing heavy highway, road, or bridge construction activities. This position serves as the junior on-site company representative, maintaining liaison with clients and the corporate office while ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company standards.

What You’ll Do
  • Work with the Project Manager to control costs and maintain project profitability using experience in heavy construction
  • Manage field construction activity, engineering, and other field project support functions
  • Supervise the development of project schedules and monitor production to ensure timely completion
  • Review cost reports and analyze data to assist in reducing costs and maintaining productivity
  • Establish project labor requirements and review staffing needs with divisional management
  • Conduct regular project inspections and advise project supervision regarding work progress, quality, and safety conditions requiring attention
  • Coordinate work with subcontractors to ensure all work meets project scope and specifications
  • Enforce project policies and procedures with subcontractors
  • Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, and client or owner representatives to identify project issues and assist in developing solutions
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and provide assistance in addressing safety-related areas or conditions
  • Monitor projects to ensure adherence to company and regulatory procedures
  • Oversee project purchasing activities to ensure quality materials and timely delivery at competitive costs
  • Hold regular meetings with the project supervisor to review progress and plan future construction activities
  • Determine equipment needs and ensure proper maintenance and utilization

What We’re Looking For
  • Five to ten or more years of construction management experience
  • Experience managing medium to large projects valued at $10 million or more
  • Knowledge of the local construction environment preferred
  • Experience with highly technical or design-build projects is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline preferred
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Excellent prioritization, organizational, and attention-to-detail abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs such as Excel and Word
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven track record of organizing work forces to accomplish project goals
  • Effective negotiation and contract management skills to represent the company with owners and outside agencies
  • Broad knowledge across multiple construction disciplines
