TITLE:
Title I Behavior Interventionist (Full time)
FLSA:
Exempt
Under general supervision of the school Principal, assists a teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students with behavior challenges. This position is also responsible for monitoring, redirecting and modifying student progress regarding inappropriate behaviors and performance, administering intensive behavior intervention programs to identified students, and performing a variety of clerical duties as described in the specific intervention program implementation plan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Assists in providing instruction to behaviorally challenged individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing classroom instruction.
- Administers one-to-one intensive behavior intervention to students.
- Actively participates in behavior intervention meetings and professional development.
- Collects data and records anecdotal student progress notes and maintains behavioral charting data.
- Instructs and directs prescribed learning activities.
- Monitors, observes and reports behavior of students according to approved procedures, including progress regarding student performance and behavior.
- Provides students and parents with proper examples, emotional support and general guidance as directed.
- Communicates with teachers regarding programs and materials to meet student needs.
- Follows health and safety practices and regulations.
- Instructs students in developing self-help and self-advocacy skills as directed.
- Participates in developing specialized student plans (IEP, BIP, 504, MTSS), as needed.
- Supports Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) initiatives (if applicable).
- Provides assistance with de-escalating student behaviors and reintegration back into the classroom.
- Implements classroom management system as applicable.
- Follows Board policies, district procedures and contractual obligations.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Education and experience as required by the district. Preference to candidates having at least 5 years of effective experience in the grade level and area appropriate for the needs of the assigned students and the specific intervention program.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district and state. Other personal and professional traits and or experiences that would indicate that the obligations of the position could be successfully accomplished.
Skills/Effort:
Abilities and comprehension must be exhibited relative to; state and federal regulation compliance; curricula development; office equipment operations; verbal and written communication; personality traits necessary to work collaboratively with parents, district staff members, community members, planning team members, and other groups involved with district activities. A willingness must be exhibited to perform the duties of the position efficiently and timely.
Working Conditions:
Office and school environment with no exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to general school activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to 35 pounds. Routine local travel for training and monitoring is required. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and meeting deadlines. Cherokee County School District is a smoke free district.
ResponsibilityResponsible for instructing small groups of identified academically at-risk students in a supplemental setting for ELA and/or Math content; and maintains and submits service records as required by the specified intervention.
