Overview

Ethos Energy is recruiting for an Operations & Maintenance Technician (OMT) at Cherokee County Cogeneration, a 1 x 1 combined cycle facility located in Gaffney, SC. The site comprises one GE 6FA.01 Combustion Turbine Generator Set with HRSG, one GE Steam Turbine Generator Set, and associated balance of plant equipment. The successful candidate will be assigned to a 12-hour rotating shift and will be responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the power generation facility.

This position works under the direction of the O&M Manager and Lead Operations & Maintenance Technicians (LOMTs).

Responsibilities
  • Duties and responsibilities will be assigned by Facility Management as needed, including but not limited to the following.
  • Support the LOMT in the proper operation of the combined cycle generating facility with minimal guidance or assistance. Competently operate and maintain all plant equipment. Communicate plant issues and keep the LOMT fully informed of plant operations, unusual conditions, and faulty equipment.
  • Demonstrate effective use of a computerized maintenance management system (Maximo) by entering data consistently with fellow employees and documenting maintenance actions. Thoroughly record equipment problems on Maximo work requests and document maintenance actions taken on work order forms. Handle corrective and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high-quality manner. Document spare parts usage and re-ordering.
  • Read meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data (e.g., temperature, vibration, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels) to verify operating conditions. Visually inspect and listen to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or needs for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
  • Provide detailed status of plant conditions to fellow OMTs at shift turnover.
  • Perform water chemistry analysis on HRSG and cooling tower systems. Ensure water chemistry is within proper control ranges. Adjust water chemistry as needed by controlling chemical feed and/or blowdown rates. Work with LOMTs and water treatment vendor to monitor the overall chemistry program.
  • Operate demineralized water system in accordance with OEM and plant procedures and monitor water quality to ensure it is within acceptable limits.
  • Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, gauges, etc., and cleaning, replacing, oiling, and lubricating other components as required.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions or failures. Repair, replace, dismantle, and examine defective parts; lubricate and clean parts as needed.
  • Use facility operating procedures and equipment manuals to operate, maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure operation within acceptable parameters. Assist in troubleshooting and inspecting programmable logic controllers, plant control systems and distributive control systems, including control card replacement and wiring terminations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals, and P&.
  • Work shift hours, overtime, and irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility. Some hours may be determined on short notice based on plant requirements.
  • Perform general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the facility’s appearance, including painting projects as required. Maintain cleanliness of all plant areas and the control room.
  • Read, understand, and comply with all regulatory and facility safety procedures.
  • May be required to operate a forklift or similar heavy equipment.
  • Actively participate as a highly valued member of the organization in a team environment.
Required Skills / Knowledge
  • The successful candidate will possess and demonstrate competence in one or more of the following maintenance skills: instrumentation, controls, electrician, mechanical maintenance.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
