Overview

Under general supervision, this position performs a substantive role in power system analysis and study work. You must be competent to operate various power system software tools required for performing power system studies. You must also be capable of manipulating power system databases and establishing base cases for load flow and dynamic stability modeling. Must also possess an understanding of power system calculation methodologies, terminologies, and techniques.

Responsibilities
  • Perform power system studies and demonstrate a good working knowledge of power system planning, design, and operation, including but not limited to:
    • Utility Networked Transmission Systems
    • Utility Network and Radial Distribution Systems
    • Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional Facilities
  • Operate power system software tools required for performing power system engineering studies, such as:
    • Interconnection Studies for PV and BESS
    • Load Flow Analysis
    • Overcurrent and Protective Device Coordination
    • Steady State Thermal and Voltage Analysis
    • Dynamic Stability Analysis
    • Short-Circuit Studies
    • Long-Term Dynamic Analysis
    • Electrical Equipment Evaluation
    • Arc-Flash Hazard Analysis
    • Motor Starting Study
    • Harmonic Analysis
    • Transient Analysis
    • Post-Transient Analysis (PV/QV)
  • Proficiency with CYME, Synergi, Milsoft Wind Mil, and ASPEN software
  • Develop the power system model database within the scope of work using modeling software
  • Prepare written reports which explain the purpose, methodology, data requirements, recommendations, and observations of power system studies
  • Analyze results and develop alternatives to identified problems
  • Perform calculations, analysis, and evaluations as per project requirements
  • Participate actively in client development and maintenance
  • Keep supervision informed of the status of all projects relative to pre-established expectations
  • Maintain up-to-date job folders containing all pertinent correspondence, equipment drawings, design drawings, on-site collected data, data sheets, etc.
  • Backup project documents, system models, and other pertinent project data to network and external storage media as prescribed by Group guidelines
  • Stay informed of Department and Company news by attending meetings (in person or via conference call) for the Power System Studies Group and Company
  • Show willingness to mentor other engineers
  • Manage ambiguity effectively
  • Work independently and with others while maintaining high initiative and self-motivation
  • Communicate relevant client information to appropriate Company employees to further develop customer relationships
Qualifications
  • Possess a four-year Bachelor of Science or Technology degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in electrical engineering
  • 2-5 years of proven work experience in power system operations or planning with emphasis on analysis and studies
  • Experience with Distribution Planning Studies including Load Flow, Short Circuit, Stability, Distributed Generation, Hosting Capacity, Protection and Coordination, System Impact, Feasibility, Reliability, and Operations
  • Proficiency with CYME, Synergi, Milsoft Wind Mil, and ASPEN is required
  • Professional Engineer license preferred, or ability to obtain within two years of employment
  • Demonstrated technical capabilities to effectively perform job duties and responsibilities
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10-20% of the time
  • Ability to perform field data collection activities as needed
