Telecom Consultant​/Senior

Job Summary

Performs straightforward network architecture assignments under moderate direction. Uses knowledge to support the planning, researching, evaluating, designing, and developing network systems. Participates in configuration, installation, and performance analysis of networks.

What you'll do:

• This position is centered around IP Network Technology.
• This position would be supporting/engineering in the Operational Technology networks.
• This position will be supporting/engineering in Transmission and Distribution environments.
• Vendor technologies include Cisco.
• Vendor toolsets include Cisco SDWan Manager and Solar Winds.

• Participates in design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of AEP's intermediate and enterprise telecommunication networks and systems. Follows policies, practices, procedures, standards, and company rules relative to assignments. Complies with regulations and procedures required by external agencies.
• Prepares cost estimates for engineering assignments using established guidelines; documents project work using established guidelines.
• Analyzes network performance, troubleshoots when necessary, and provides resolutions to technical problems.
• Follows standard workflow for engineering projects; applies economic analysis techniques and adheres to budgeting and approval processes in project development.
• Demonstrates knowledge of AEP networks, components, and facilities to enable more efficient and comprehensive responses to projects and problems.
• Learns AEP's organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of one's organizational unit.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field.
• Or associate’s degree in the mentioned field with 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience.

Experience:

• 2 years of relevant work experience in addition to any experience mentioned above.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Valid Driver's License is required.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field.
• Or associate’s degree in the mentioned field with 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience.

Experience:

• 5 years of relevant work experience in addition to any experience mentioned above.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Valid Driver's License required.

In addition:

• Possess intermediate-level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles.
• Demonstrate competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity.
• Exhibit understanding of pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems, and business processes.
• Illustrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes.
• Collaborate with others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to complete routine activities.
• Provide cross‑training to other employees as assigned and initiate corrective action when project objectives are not being met.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrate ability to extrapolate beyond known facts to reach logical conclusions.
