General FunctionSelected candidates are intended to become a Retail Personal Banker I after completing a 4‑8 week onboarding and education program that includes rotations in operations and Sales & Service. The program culminates in a certification that demonstrates the skills needed to perform successfully in the Retail Personal Banker role. This position focuses on using the consultative sales process to proactively identify and meet customers’ financial needs, acquire new households, and deepen existing relationships through activities such as lobby leadership, aisle time at Bank Marts, and tele‑consulting.
The Person al Banker I also processes teller transactions and works as a member of the platform staff.
Candidates are responsible for risk management through open communication, adherence to policies, and consistent identification, assessment, and reporting of risks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Use the consultative sales process and a Financial Needs Assessment to build comprehensive customer profiles and identify current and future financial needs.
- Maintain an in‑depth knowledge of retail consumer and small‑business products/services and recommend appropriate solutions using the bank’s value proposition.
- Utilize CAMP and other approved marketing tools to proactively reach out to customers and set appointments for periodic financial reviews.
- Cross‑sell to existing customers and engage in outside sales activities such as Membership Advantage presentations, business sales calls, and community financial literacy events.
- Establish close working relationships with assigned business partners (Mortgage, Small Business, Commercial, and Investment) and refer customers for timely, holistic financial solutions.
- Consistently meet or exceed customer experience and individual/team production goals and drive year‑over‑year revenue growth as measured by the Financial Center P&L.
- Guide CSRs on the sales and referral process.
- Promote customer satisfaction with a friendly, helpful demeanor and professionalism.
- Answer customer questions confidently and resolve issues.
- Maintain confidentiality of all business information.
- Follow the Bancorp Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and related policies, maintaining ethical behavior at all times.
- Adhere to policies and procedures while opening/servicing the full range of retail products.
- Participate in the consumer loan and bankcard process, owning sourced loans from application through closing.
- Participate in the opening/closing process of the Financial Center or Bank Mart as directed.
- Stay current on retail procedures designed to mitigate fraudulent activity and reduce risk or exposure.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required- College degree or work experience providing transferable skills, or a combination of education and experience.
- Preferred experience in the financial industry.
- Comfortable with sales activities aimed at acquiring new consumer households and small‑business customers and/or cross‑selling to existing customers.
- Ability to apply advanced math functions for credit and financial analysis.
- Professional representation of Fifth Third Bank in appearance and written/ verbal communication.
- Working knowledge of retail policies and procedures to exercise sound judgment.
- Required:
S.A.F.E. Act registration upon employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). The NMLS web site provides the MU4R questions and registration required for this position.
