Job Summary:
The Materials Equipment Operator I is responsible for safely operating heavy machinery, such as forklifts, loaders, skid steers, and other heavy equipment to load, unload, and transport various materials like asphalt, concretes, limestone, topsoil, and other products within a materials yard. This role ensures effective inventory management, compliance with safety regulations, and the upkeep of a clean and organized yard.
Essential Functions:
Transport, stack, and organize various materials such as aggregates, building supplies, and landscaping products to designated areas.
Monitor and track material inventory to ensure proper stock levels and report discrepancies or shortages.
Operates hand and power tools of all types, including air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, measuring equipment, handheld power saws and compaction equipment.
The ability to operate a multitude of construction equipment used in crushing and materials processing, including, but not limited to, excavators, bulldozers, compaction equipment, skid steer, directional drills and front- end loaders to support a variety of operations.
Identifies and observes proper construction hand signals etiquette to efficiently and safely operate machines.
Loads a multitude of materials
Operates heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner to minimize the risk of injury or property damage.
The ability to follow the field supervisor’s direction by utilizing a multitude of machines to complete general tasks.
Knowledge in compaction testing with general knowledge of a multitude of materials.
Ability to read and understand measurements in increments, inches and feet.
Clearly communicates with field supervisors to discuss duties, construction problems and improvements methods.
Reads and comply with safety plans, work permits, maintenance instructions, training manuals, MSDS’s, warning tags, traffic signs and procedure manuals.
Serves as a backup to other positions if directed by management.
Performs daily safety and maintenance checks.
Ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
Competencies or Experience Requirements Class A - CDL License with Tanker Endorsement preferred.
Two (2) to five (5) years of experience preferred
Crushing and Materials processing preferred
Excellent problem-solving skills
Strong understanding of crushing and material processes
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and site plans
Working in various weather conditions
Ensure the work area is clean and safe Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team Knowledge of environmental regulations
Ability to work in areas of uneven terrain
Good communication skills
Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance
Exemplify a strong work ethic
Reliable and punctual
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Ability to follow project instructions and meet deadlines
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends as needed
Able to successfully pass all required training
Provide input on improving operational efficiency
Physical Requirements Sitting Standing or walking
Lifting or carrying 50+lbs. on a frequent basis
Pushing or pulling
Reaching overhead, at or below shoulder level
Foot or leg controls on machinery or equipment (controls include, but are not limited to, pedals, buttons, levers, and cranks
Driving passenger vehicles or equipment
Stooping, Crouching, Kneeling, Crawling Climbing ramps, stairs, ladders or scaffolding
Speaking to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
Hearing—the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery alarms, horns, or other alarm systems).Far visual acuity – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more Peripheral vision – observing an area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point
Education Requirements High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
Safety Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
Travel Travel to job sites is required as needed.
