Job Description:
Accountant reconciles UF Research operating projects for the Assistant Director of Accounting's review and initiates necessary corrections.
Accountant manages cash-based projects for UF Research. Tracks multi-year projects for the full commitment lifecycle, including project creation, funding transfers, extensions, expense reviews, and closures. Generates expired project listings monthly. Provides back-up support for the IDC and VPDSR shared inboxes daily.
Accountant reviews financial charges based on the UF fiscal policy, confirms proper documentation, and approves them in the People Soft system. Ensures purchases are made in accordance with UF Procurement Directives and Procedures, and equipment is recorded in my Assets.
Accountant provides financial reports for UF Research operating cost centers to directors periodically or upon request. Assists the Finance Director and the Assistant Director of Accounting with special projects as assigned.
Accountant I:
* The accountant reviews Fund 211 expenses throughout the year in accordance with UF fiscal policies.
* The Accountant manages UF Research cash-based projects, opening and closing them in a timely manner to make funds available to support research at UF, and updates the projects as needed.
* Accountant reconciles UF Research's various projects and assists the office with ad hoc projects as needed and other duties as assigned.
Accountant II:
* The accountant reviews Fund 211 expenses and processes financial transactions for UF Research throughout the year in accordance with the UF fiscal policy.
* Accountant reconciles UF Research's various projects in a timely and independent manner and suggests corrections of reconciling items.
* The Accountant manages UF Research's cash-based projects, reviews the appropriateness of transactions in accordance with the commitment purposes, and recommends next steps.
* Accountant assists the office with ad hoc projects as needed and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Accountant I:
A bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
Accountant II:
A bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of experience.
Preferred:
* Critical thinking skills, demonstrated problem solving skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Interacts with administration, staff, students, and public in a professional manner.
* Excellent computer skills. Proficiency in People Soft, Workday, Enterprise Analytics, Concur, Microsoft Office applications, and Adobe Acrobat preferred.
* Ability to prioritize work assignments, effectively manage multiple tasks and time, make responsible decisions, work independently, analyze problems, and implement solutions.
* Practices excellent customer service, is self-motivated, and has a superior attention to detail.
* Experience managing multi-year award programs.
* Experience preparing or auditing expense reconciliations at UF.
* Understanding of UF's purchasing, disbursement, and travel directives; internal controls at UF; and the F&A Cost Return & Use Policy.
