Job Description:

The Academic Assistant II supports the Department of Astronomy's academic programs by coordinating courses, maintaining records, and assisting students and faculty.

Responsibilities include:

Course & Enrollment Coordination

* Manage course logistics, scheduling, and facilitating classroom/exam requests for the department.

* Oversee registration, waitlists, and enrollment monitoring for courses.

* Facilitate on-time grade collection and submission.

Student Records & Admissions

* Maintain student and course records in UF systems (e.g., People Soft, GIMS).

* Track undergraduate and graduate student progress, milestones, and forms.

* Support graduate admissions by tracking materials and communicating with applicants.

Department & Administrative Support

* Provide front-line customer service and route department inquiries.

* Assist with calendar management, meetings, and academic events.

* Provide backup coverage for other administrative functions as needed.

Expected Salary:

The salary is $20-$22/hourly, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience.

Preferred

* Knowledge of UF systems (People Soft/Student Admin, GIMS) and CLAS academic procedures.

* Strong communication and customer service skills.

* Ability to interpret and apply Registrar, Graduate School, and International Center requirements.

* Demonstrated proficiency with office productivity software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email/calendar tools) and the ability to learn new systems.
