Job Description:
The Academic Assistant II supports the Department of Astronomy’s academic programs by coordinating courses, maintaining records, and assisting students and faculty.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage course logistics, scheduling, and facilitating classroom/exam requests for the department.
- Oversee registration, waitlists, and enrollment monitoring for courses.
- Facilitate on-time grade collection and submission.
- Maintain student and course records in UF systems (e.g., People Soft, GIMS).
- Track undergraduate and graduate student progress, milestones, and forms.
- Support graduate admissions by tracking materials and communicating with applicants.
- Provide front-line customer service and route department inquiries.
- Assist with calendar management, meetings, and academic events.
- Provide backup coverage for other administrative functions as needed.
The salary is $20-$22 hourly, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Knowledge of UF systems (People Soft/Student Admin, GIMS) and CLAS academic procedures.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply Registrar, Graduate School, and International Center requirements.
- Demonstrated proficiency with office productivity software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email/calendar tools) and the ability to learn new systems.
