The University of Florida Office of Federal Relations is seeking a detail oriented, resourceful, organized, and creative Federal Relations Associate to join their team in Washington, DC. The Office of Federal Relations advocates for the interests of the university and represents the faculty, students and staff before Congress, the Executive branch, and the national higher education associations.
The Federal Relations Associate is a critical member of the federal relations team and supports the Assistant Vice President and Director for Federal Government Relations in all aspects, including office management, office and visitor scheduling, event planning and execution, alumni outreach, and preparation of briefing materials, presentations and reports. The Federal Relations Associate also serves as the onsite resource for the UF undergraduate Washington Internship Program.
Ideal candidates have experience in administrative operations, a connection to the University of Florida, are eager to learn and able to work in a fast-paced environment collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders.
Job DutiesAssist the AVP and Director of Federal Relations with managing the overall operation of the office by performing a variety of administrative and support duties.
Manage, schedule, and maintain the calendar of appointments and commitments and coordinate events for the office, which is involved in a variety of university, governmental and higher education association activities that require intensive coordination of scheduling changes and event preparation involving congressional offices, federal agencies, the White House and national higher education associations. Serve as the coordinator for UF's annual Gator Day in DC event and additional receptions and promotional events in DC.
Provide project and task management for the office. Independently manage projects as assigned by AVP and Director of Federal Relations. Responsible for office management including ordering and maintaining supplies, and preparing and maintaining travel, budget and billing documents for the office. Prepare correspondence, briefing documents, presentations (PowerPoint and otherwise), reports, and other materials. Answer, screen and triage phone calls and requests from campus.
Research issues as needed and summarize information. Manage and maintain appropriate filing systems and project and task management systems.
Coordinate with AVP and Director of Federal Government Relations on weekly assignments for the Federal Relations student interns. Serve as the local point of contact for UF student interns during their semester in Washington, DC.
A successful candidate can set priorities and meet deadlines, exhibit great flexibility, and handle a wide variety of tasks. You will develop and maintain frequent contact with administration, staff members, faculty members, and students of the University of Florida, congressional offices, executive agency personnel, coalition and association staff, and other alumni and Florida stakeholders.
