Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and hands‑on Field Technician I to support engineering, environmental services, materials testing, and inspection projects. In this role, you will conduct on‑site inspections, materials testing, and environmental sampling to ensure construction, infrastructure, and environmental projects meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities- Conduct field and laboratory testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and other construction materials.
- Properly collect, label, and transport samples from job sites to laboratories.
- Ensure project testing requirements are met and compliant with specifications and company policies.
- Complete detailed reports, logs, and documentation of test results.
- Maintain testing equipment and ensure functionality.
- Accurately document test results, observations, and site conditions.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, field supervisors, contractors, and project managers.
- Adhere to project timelines and schedules.
- Adapt to changing project requirements, schedules, and weather conditions.
- Participate in ongoing training and certification programs.
- Follow strict safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
- Operate and maintain an assigned company vehicle.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project goals.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or coursework in construction, engineering, geology, or a related field is a plus.
- 0–3 years of experience in a field‑based, outdoor, or physically demanding role.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Industry certifications as applicable such as ACI Level 1 Concrete Testing.
- Commitment to workplace safety and PPE use.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and field data collection software.
- Mathematical skills sufficient to perform basic calculations.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
- Strong time‑management, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Attention to detail in sample collection and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, including early mornings, weekends, overtime, and potential overnight travel.
This position requires extensive travel, up to approximately 70% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice.
Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentThis position works primarily in outdoor environments with varying field conditions such as inaccessible sites requiring travel on foot through wetlands, grasslands, and other uneven terrain.
- Lifting and carrying 35–50 lbs. up to 75 feet, with repetitive motion.
- Standing, walking, driving, and operating equipment for extended periods.
- Use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment.
- Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required.
- Effective communication in noisy environments.
- Use of senses to see, hear, touch, and adapt to weather conditions.
