Job Purpose
The Construction Field of Study Intern will gain hands‑on experience supporting active construction projects while applying classroom knowledge in a real‑world environment. This internship is designed for students pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field and provides exposure to field operations, project coordination, safety, and documentation processes.
- Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with day‑to‑day project activities
- Participate in jobsite visits to observe construction means and methods
- Support project documentation, including daily reports, RFIs, submittals, and meeting notes
- Assist with quantity takeoffs, material tracking, and basic cost control tasks
- Help maintain project schedules and track progress
- Observe and support quality control procedures and safety compliance efforts
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors as directed
- Perform general administrative and field support tasks as assigned
Learning Objective
- Gain understanding of construction project workflows from preconstruction through project closeout
- Develop familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Learn jobsite safety standards, OSHA requirements, and best practices
- Build professional communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
- Apply classroom knowledge to real‑world construction scenario
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
- Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Construction, or a related field
Preferred Qualification
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
- Basic understanding of construction principles and terminology
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Familiarity with construction or project management software is a plus
- Ability to work effectively in both office and active job‑site environments
Working Conditions
- May involve standing, walking, bending, and light lifting consistent with jobsite activities
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety vest, gloves, and protective footwear
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
- Ability to walk active construction jobsites, climb stairs and ladders, and navigate uneven terrain
