- Review construction documents and drawings to identify piping materials, specific job requirements, and deviations from standard practices.
- Execute detailed take-offs of construction documents using estimating software tools.
- Compile take-offs and equipment summaries into comprehensive project estimates.
- Obtain pricing for specialty materials and solicit bids from subcontractors and vendors.
- Draft and finalize proposals, bid forms, and cost breakouts.
- Develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, and government requirements.
- Coordinate bid calendar for takeoff purposes and attend departmental meetings.
- Review bid documents and specifications for project-specific requirements.
- Inform immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or database.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of related experience in commercial plumbing estimation.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Leadership skills with the ability to multitask and perform duties in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with estimating techniques, cost control, and labor/material take-offs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Bid software.
- Familiarity with the MCAA labor book and industry-standard estimation software such as Estimation Viewpoint or Trimble Autobid.
- Strong critical thinking and technical writing skills for drafting proposals.
- Knowledge of a variety of mechanical and plumbing systems and equipment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy in all aspects of work.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
