Our Museum Safety Representatives play an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for Museum visitors, staff, and occupants. As part of the Museum's front-line operations, Museum Safety Representatives help ensure that guests can enjoy the Museum's spaces, exhibits, and collections in a safe and secure setting.
Visitor Services and Safety Representatives are an important part of the Museum's front-line visitor experience and safety operations. Representatives help protect Museum collections, exhibits, and occupants while providing friendly and knowledgeable service to visitors at Powell Hall and the McGuire Center of Lepidoptera and Biodiversity.
Representatives regularly interact with Museum visitors, providing information about exhibits, Museum events, and available resources while helping maintain a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for all visitors.
Essential duties include:- Greeting and assisting Museum visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
- Monitoring exhibition areas and conducting exhibit patrols.
- Helping protect Museum collections, displays, facilities, and occupants.
- Enforcing Museum policies and procedures in public areas.
- Monitoring public spaces to help ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
- Providing access to secure areas as authorized.
- Supporting event setup and strike activities.
- Assisting with emergency response and following established emergency procedures when needed.
- Providing visitors with information about exhibits, Museum events, and resources.
- Performing other visitor services and safety duties as needed.
This is a part-time, time-limited OPS position with a minimum one-year commitment preferred.
32-36 hours per week
; shifts are Monday-Saturday, 9:00 a.m.
-5:30 p.m., and Sunday, 10:00 a.m.
-5:30 p.m. Weekday, weekend and holiday availability are required. Training is anticipated to begin in late October 2026.
Expected Salary:
$17.00 per hour
Required Qualifications:- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Positive and welcoming attitude.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interact positively with a diverse range of visitors.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays and weekends.
- Previous customer service experience.
- Experience working in a museum, cultural institution, public-facing environment, or similar setting.
- Experience in safety, security, event operations, or crowd management.
- Interest in or knowledge of the natural world.
